DC Products
DC Motors
Bodine permanent magnet DC (PMDC) motors are a simple DC drive solution for applications requiring high efficiency, high starting torque, and linear speed/torque performance characteristics. PMDC motors are also a cost-efficient solution for adjustable speed applications. They are designed for use with unfiltered SCR type, or filtered and unfiltered PWM type DC speed controls.
Bodine PMDC motors are available with low voltage (12 or 24 VDC), SCR (90 or 180 VDC), and standard (130 VDC) windings. Low voltage models are ideal for battery and solar powered equipment where power management is critical.

DC Parallel Shaft Gearmotors
Bodine parallel shaft PMDC gearmotors, also called inline gear motors, feature permanent magnet DC motors. Available frame types include 24A, 33A, and 42A. Bodine offers seven inline/parallel shaft gearheads: type 60P, D, Z, WX, FX, HG, CG. All Bodine gearhead-motor combinations are designed to work as an integral unit to eliminate the chance for leakage or bearing misalignment. These geared motors step down the motor speed and multiply the output torque provided by the motor. Parallel shaft gearmotors typically have a higher output torque, higher efficiency, and lower backlash than right-angle worm gearmotors.
To provide greater flexibility and compatibility with unfiltered SCR controls, Bodine offers type 24A-Z, 33A-Z, 33A-WX, and 42A-FX gearmotors.

DC Right Angle Gearmotors
Bodine DC right-angle gearmotors feature either worm gearing or hypoid gearing. Worm gears have inherent self-locking ability and are an economical solution for applications requiring high-speed reductions in a limited space—with smooth and quiet operation. All Bodine worm gear gearboxes are permanently lubricated, feature bronze gears for high shock load capability, and are hardened for high strength and long life.
Right angle gearmotors with hypoid gears are slightly more expensive but are more efficient, produce less heat, provide higher torque, and are usually smaller in size than equivalent gearmotors with worm-and-pinion reducers.
Bodine offers seven right-angle gearboxes: type 3F, 3RD, 5F, 5L, 5N, GB, and 5H.

AC Products
AC Motors
Bodine AC motors and geared motors are available in five frame sizes 30R, 34R, 42R, 48R, and K2, with stock models designed and rated for continuous-duty applications. Synchronous and non-synchronous motor windings are available for use with 115, 230, and 460 VAC power supplies. Because they have no brushes or springs, AC motors are an excellent choice for applications where no maintenance and quiet operation are required.
Bodine AC motor types:
- Permanent split capacitor (PSC) gearmotors require a continuous-duty, motor run-capacitor to provide starting torque. Bodine type CI and YC are designed for fixed-speed applications using single-phase AC power.
- Split-phase gearmotors and motors (type SI and SY) use an auxiliary winding to provide starting torque rather than a capacitor. The start winding will be cut via a centrifugal switch when the motor reaches 70% of its rated operating speed.
- Three-phase, fixed-speed gearmotors (type PP and YP) and motors can be used where 230/460 VAC is available. They provide higher starting torque and higher efficiency than permanent split capacitor models.
Bodine also offers a complete line of AC inverter-duty, three-phase gearmotors and matched inverter (VFD) speed controls for variable-speed applications.
AC Parallel Shaft Gearmotors
Bodine AC parallel shaft gearmotors are available in four motor frame sizes 30R, 34R, 42R, and 48R with 110, 230, and 460 VAC winding options—designed for either continuous duty or start-stop applications. Non-synchronous and synchronous windings are available. Bodine offers seven gearheads: type D, Z, WX, FX, HG, CG, and A/T (K-2). All gearhead-motor combinations are designed to work as one integrated unit. These gearheads step down the motor speed and multiply the output torque provided by the motor.
Inverter drives—also called variable frequency drives (VFDs)—allow inverter-duty rated AC, 3-phase gearmotors to run at variable speeds.
- Zero maintenance
- Simple to use
- Cost effective
- Higher output torque and efficiency than right-angle worm gearmotors
- Fixed or variable speed models available
AC Right Angle Gearmotors
Bodine AC right-angle gearmotors feature either worm or hypoid gearing. Bodine offers eight right-angle gearboxes: type 3RD, 3N, 3F, 5F, 5L, 5N, GB, and 5H. Most are available in hollow shaft configuration.
- Maintenance free operation
- Compact design is ideal for application where space is limited
- Self-locking
- Hollow shaft models available

AC 3-Phase Inverter Duty Gearmotors and Motors
The output speed of Bodine AC 3-phase inverter-duty models can be changed by converting the incoming 60Hz AC power to a DC voltage. PWM (pulse width modulated) inverter drives allow AC 3-phase inverter-duty motors to run at variable speeds and frequencies. The DC voltage is chopped by power transistors to simulate a sine wave that is sent to the motor. Varying the output voltage and frequency of the control changes the speed of the motor.
Six parallel shaft gearheads are available: type D, Z, WX, FX, HG, and CG. Right-angle gearheads include: type 3RD, 3N, 5N, 5L, GB, and 5H.
- Maintenance free
- Variable speed
- Many parallel shaft and right angle options
- Hollow shaft models available for right-angle models

AC Torque Motors
Bodine AC torque motors run at a stall or produce reverse torque intermittently at reduced voltage. Torque decreases steadily as the rotor speed increases. They are ideal for tensioning applications. A step-down transformer or inverter with single-phase output can be used to vary the supply voltage. For type K-2 motors, a power resistor wired in series can be used.
Bodine offers four AC torque motor frame sizes: 30R, 42R, 48R, and K2.
Brushless DC Products
Brushless DC Motors
Brushless DC motors—also called electronically commutated (EC) motors— produce more output power when compared to similar-sized AC or PMDC motors. Their magnets are attached to the rotor and their windings are part of the stationery motor housing. Locating the windings closer to the outside allows these motors handle higher continuous loads without exceeding the temperature limit. Brushless DC motors are ideal for high speed applications with tight speed regulations or where a brush-type DC motor would generate too much noise and/or wear out the brushes too quickly.
Bodine brushless DC motors are available in stock models up to 10K RPM in both 24 and 130VDC windings. Bodine type 22B and 34B INTEGRAmotors consist of a brushless DC motor, a gearhead, a motor feedback device (encoder) and a control.
