Founded in 1857, TB Wood’s has grown to become a global leader in the design and manufacturer of industrial couplings and belted drive solutions. Their highly-engineered coupling products represent the latest in coupling technology, featuring superior design and exceptional quality to ensure long-lasting performance. TB Wood’s was purchased by Altra Holdings, Inc. (Altra Industrial Motion, Corp.) in 2007.

Shaft Couplings

Sure-Flex Plus EPDM and Neoprene sleeves have a four-way flexing action that absorbs virtually all types of shock, misalignment, and end float. With Sure-Flex couplings, the need for lubrication and maintenance is eliminated. As a result, these couplings provide clean, dependable, and quiet performance for a variety of applications.

Dura-Flex couplings are designed to maximize flex life and are erfect for a wide variety of applications — including those with uniform to heavy shock loads. They employ a light weight element that absorbs shock loading and torsional vibration

L-Jaw couplings meet high-quality standards while remaining affordable. TB Wood’s offers two Jaw-type elastomeric couplings: a straight L-Jaw coupling available with four insert materials and a straight C-Jaw coupling designed for high-torque loads.

Form-Flex couplings transmit torque while compensating for angular, parallel, and axial misalignment between two connected shafts. Flexible disc couplings minimize the misalignment forces on the connected equipment.

Torsiflex-I disc couplings are specifically designed for process pump applications. Torsiflex is an all-metal disc coupling requiring no lubrication that incorporates a plug-in feature to allow installation and removal without disturbing the pump alignment.

G-Flex taper grid couplings are made from high tensile alloy steel that is formed to the grid shape before hardening and tempering under controlled conditions. The grid surface is then shot-peened. This process dramatically increases the working life and fatigue strength of the grid.

Bushings

Sure-Grip Quick Detachable (QD) bushings are split through the flange and tapered to provide a true clamp on the shaft that is equivalent to a shrink fit. All sizes except JA and QT have a set screw over the key to help maintain the bushing’s position on the shaft until the cap screws are securely tightened.

Taper-Lock bushings are split through the flange and gradual taper to provide a true clamp fit on the shaft that is the equivalent of a shrink fit.

Sheaves and Belted Drives

Classical (AKA Conventional) V-belts include A, B, C, and D section belts, available in wrapped or cog construction. E section V-belts are available for replacement, but  not recommended for new drive designs.

FHP light-duty sheaves are available in two types with one and two grooves. AK sheaves accommodate A (4L) belts and BK sheaves are made for A (4L) or B (5L) belts.

Narrow (Ultra-V) sheaves include three cross sections 3V, 5V, and 8V and are constructed of fine grain, high tensile cast iron. They are engineered for maximum performance over a long life span.

Poly-V sheaves include four cross sections: J, K, L, and M. The J section sheaves are stocked in a Sure-Grip QD Style and bored-to-size for sheaves under 2”.  The K, L, and M sections are made-to-order.

Premium belts have the highest power density of any V-belt and stretch dramatically less than standard cross sections. They are ideal for problem drives requiring high-impact strength and load-carrying power.

Synchronous Drive Products

QT Power Chain synchronous belt drives are constructed with materials of the highest quality and strength. Superior torque capacity gives QT Power Chain drives the ability to exceed the performance of existing belt drives and compete with chain and other mechanical systems.

QT PowerChain II Carbon belt drive system consists of a synchronous belt, sprockets, bushings, and idlers that are designed to work together to deliver the best value in power transmission.

Synchronous Plus drives offer the added flexibility of a dual sprocket design that features both metric and standard-tapped holes coupled with a high capacity Synchronous Plus belt.

Timing Belt drives combine the advantages of chain and gear drives with the advantages of belted drives like savings in weight, space, and construction without a sacrifice in efficiency,

Variable Speed Drives

Companion sheaves for motion control variable speed drives are made to accommodate Sure-Grip bushings for ease of installation.

TB Wood’s offers five different varieties of motion control drives in cast iron or aluminum construction: the All-Pro, MCS, MS, Var-a-Cone, and Roto-Cone; all of which offer reliability and performance.

Motor bases include the MBA, with heavy-duty cast iron construction, the MC, made from heavy-duty welded steel, the Model ’A’ Tilting, for fractional horsepower motors, and the QS, which enables quick motor repositioning.

Stationary control adjustable drives need no lubrication and are accurately balanced to assure smooth operation and long life. Exclusive, patented locking collars clamp movable parts securely in place, eliminating relative motion between sheave parts as well as freezing and sticking from fretting corrosion

Clutches and Brakes

Roto-Cam mechanical clutches eliminate external, separately-mounted fulcrums, yokes, levers, or trunnions and permit a simple, clean, and compact control system for direct or remote and manual or powered actuation.

Disc-O-Torque fluid actuated multiple disc clutch models D5(HTH), D3(STH) and D2(STD) require no rotating unions, glands, or rifle drilling. Wave springs provide fast, positive disc separation for minimum idling resistance and uniform torque capacity.
